Grants for Summer Sport Athletes

Summer sport athletes got grants for over one million euros admitted by Minister of Education and Culture, Sanni Grahn-Laasonen.

Altogether 102 summer sport athletes got grants admitted by Minister of Education and Culture Sanni Grahn-Laasonen. The granted athletes were announced 07.03.2016.
 
The main function of grants is to create economical possibilities and conditions to train as a full-time professional athlete.
 
The amount of grants were 20 000, 10 000 and 5 000 euros. 22 athletes got the biggest grant amount and the 10 000 euros were admitted to 42 athletes. The grant for young individual athlete or young team sport athlete were given to 38 athletes.
The proposal for granted athletes were done by Finnish Olympic Committee. Grants are tax-free.
 
A new modification in principles of grant admittance was used this year: the grant can be admit also for young team sport athlete and also the limit of incomes was erased.
 
The grant is not an award of success, although one ground is the probability and chance of success in upcoming international championships. Minister of Education and Culture Sanni Grahn-Laasonen also commented that in future the young, on-the-way top athletes will be even more highlighted in grant admittance.
