Laws and Regulations
Adapted physical activity has a strong position in the regulation of public sports activities in Finland. The rights of persons with disabilities and chronic illnesses are secured with both Finnish and international laws that regulate Finnish legislation and decision making. Finland ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2016 and that has made the rights of persons with disabilities even stronger.
The key legislation of adapted physical activity is comprised of the following laws:
• The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)
• The Constitution Law of Finland
• Non-Discrimination Act
• Local Government Act
• Act on the promotion of sports and physical activity
• Law of disability attendance
(only available in Finnish and Swedish)
• The law of land use and building
