The presentation How combat corruption in sport more efficiently? first screens empirical evidence about corruption on the playing field (match fixing), then in sport governing bodies when awarding a site to host a mega-sporting event or electing some VIP. The most criminal behaviour is checked to be fraudulent betting related to match fixing which is manipulated by international criminal networks. The economic model of crime (Becker) delivers inefficient (or not efficient enough) recipes to combat corruption in sport. Since the major issue is one of (including economic) governance. Some advices for improving governance in sport are surveyed.
The presentation ends up with two new and more efficient schemes for combatting corruption in sport: 1/ A set of new rules to be enforced when recruiting, educating, and supervising (auditing) all insiders operating in high-level and professional sports (insiders are meant to be sport decision makers, participants, players, coaches, referees,managers, wagerers, etc.). 2/ A specific 'Sportbettobin tax' to make fraudulent betting less profitable and push (incite to leave) criminals out of sport.
